The Economy and You
Poof: Another 800,000 jobs disappear Since April 2008, the Labor Department estimated that business openings created thousands of more jobs than were lost from employers closing in every month but one. But those gains may end up being a mirage.
According to Chris Isidore, senior writer for CNNMoney.com, he says -- As bad as the government's jobs readings numbers have been during the Great Recession, we'll soon find out the real situation likely was worse.Much worse. Job losses during the recession may have been underestimated by close to a million jobs. So instead of employers cutting just over 7 million jobs from their payrolls since the economic downturn began in December 2007, it's expected that the Labor Department's new estimate will be a loss of 8 million jobs. "It's an enormous understatement of the severity of the crisis," said Heidi Shierholz, labor economist with the Economic Policy Institute, a union-supported think tank. "It confirms that things were actually worse on the ground than what the reports suggested." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most of us have been affected by job cuts, lay-offs, and lack of new job openings. Many people think this economy crunch only affects professionals but that just is not so. Because of job loss in their workplace or simply due to inflated costs, many people are taking part-time jobs that generally attract teenage workers (i.e., jobs at the mall and fast-food services). Well, that's if they can find a job. There are other options and alternatives for you. Now is the time to think for yourself and go outside of the box. But reality is, thinking of other options and alternatives is NOT for everyone. You MUST have the DESIRE of something more. That could mean more time with your family, freedom to do what you desire, money, adventure, fun, but more. There are lots of people that have fallen into the mass mediocrity of not wanting more out of life and simply accepting the fact that their life is what they are going to get. To have success from a home career, BELIEVING in yourself is absolutely critical. That's one of the BIG differences between working a job where so long as you can do what you are told, you can have some level of success. |
